Company Spotlight is our interview series for employers who put social and environmental impact at the forefront of their business. We reached out to Johnny Crowder and Molly Levinson-Kroeber from Cope Notes to learn more about their mission and what they look for in a job candidate.
What problem is your company solving?
Johnny: Cope Notes’ mission is to help people understand and manage their mental health, reduce stigma, and make daily support easily accessible to communities and individuals living with or without a diagnosis. This is truly a matter of life or death to me as a founder - I grew up with multiple mental health conditions, and I had a lot of trouble adhering to treatment, understanding what was happening to me, and having hope for the future. I’ve seen health education and peer support make a world of difference in my own life, as well as in the lives of people I love dearly. Every day, I wake up with a sense of purpose, knowing that I’m working hard to solve the problems that nearly cost me my life.
How does social impact change the way you do business?
Molly: Understanding the impact that Cope Notes can have on society drives us and our mission. Cope Notes is anonymous and uses peer support and positive psychology to support users without ever requiring personal data, appointments, or a diagnosis. We are passionate about health equity and committed to providing daily mental health support to help everyone build better emotional and mental health habits. This mission drives us in all of our business and product decisions as we work to grow and be able to support more people every day.
What do you enjoy most about working at Cope Notes, and what are some of the challenges?
Molly: Cope Notes is a small team making a big impact. We are in an exciting time of growth with a deep understanding of how to grow our business and support even more people around the world. Seeing how the work we do is helping and supporting people all over is one of the best things about working at Cope Notes, and it’s exciting to see everything we do have a real-world impact.
Working on a small team with such a large mission can be challenging. Sometimes it’s a challenge not to have the structure or resources of a bigger team, but it also means we stay focused on what we think will have the most significant impact at any time.
What job opportunity are you most excited about posting and why?
Molly: We are excited to add a customer experience person to our team. We see this as an exciting role with so much potential. The customer experience role will help our team and business grow by being the main point of contact for our customers and large groups to help them get the most out of Cope Notes. We see many opportunities to grow in this area and look forward to working with someone to build this as a crucial part of our team.
